DNS query telemetry

Telemetry shows DNS query traffic, not who changed your DNS configuration. Use the Activity Log and object history for management actions; use telemetry to review query volume and available traffic breakdowns.

Telemetry requires an Enterprise subscription and permission to view the organisation’s domains. It is available for hosted zones and Private Master zones. If the telemetry service or its data sources are unavailable, the page shows Telemetry Unavailable rather than treating missing measurements as zero.

Open a telemetry view

  • For a hosted zone, open the zone and choose Telemetry in its tabs.
  • For a Private Master zone, open the zone from Private Masters and choose its telemetry view.
  • For organisation-wide statistics, open the organisation and choose its telemetry view when it is available to your role and plan.

Choose a time period

Use the period selector to view 1h, 6h, 24h, 7d, or 30d. The zone page includes current queries per second, totals for the last 24 hours and 30 days, and a query-volume graph for the selected period. Depending on the data available, it can also show query types, response codes, requesters, geographic regions, and network information.

Choose Download CSV where available to export the telemetry view for the selected period. Check the selected period before comparing exports or sharing them with your team.

When the page has no data

Telemetry depends on the organisation’s plan and on the telemetry services being reachable. If the page reports it is unavailable, check again later. A blank breakdown can also mean that the selected time window has no data for that chart. Do not treat unavailable or missing telemetry as proof that the zone received no queries.
